Canada has one of the most diverse and vast job markets that attract millions across the globe in hopes of finding new opportunities and experiences in our country. Immigrants and newcomers to Canada play a crucial role in developing our country and bringing their skills to enhance our economic status.

However, transitioning to a new environment and country can present many challenges for people wanting to join the workforce. Lack of “Canadian Work Experience”, unfamiliarity with the Canadian workplace, lack of professional contact and networks and job search can be some obstacles newcomers face.

Luckily, the Immigrant Employment Council of B.C. (IECBC)’s Facilitating Access to Skilled Talent (FAST) program is designed to help immigrants enhance their skill sets and provide them with the required resources to flourish in our job market and industry. Through FAST, individuals can feel validated that they are qualified to work in their sector and ready to work in Canada. This program connects skilled individuals with potential employers seeking motivated and experienced employees who want to apply their knowledge in the Canadian market. Additionally, with the help of FAST’s resources, immigrant skills and competencies can be assessed against Canadian requirements. This will give individuals a better idea of how to present their skill sets to employers in the way that they are looking for.

By registering for FAST, individuals will begin by completing a set of easy-to-follow “Prepare for Work in Canada” modules. These modules will introduce learners to Canadian workplace culture, employer expectations, and the skills required to succeed in their chosen sectors. Participants will also gain access to free industry-recognised designations to boost their resumes, allowing them to stand out to employers.

Furthermore, participants of this program will also be able to register for networking events (online or in-person) and gain access to different networking resources to connect them to industry professionals and expand their social networks. For individuals wanting to gain interview experience, FAST offers access to free simulated interview tools, allowing people to practice their interview skills and be prepared for typical questions posed by employers.

FAST’s resources and guidance provide crucial information to newcomers to succeed in the Canadian job market, and the best part is that this program is completely FREE and only takes 2-minutes to register.

FAST is great for students as it provides them with the necessary training and knowledge on how to approach the job market and employers. Students have access to multiple different tools, training, and connections to help them succeed in finding a job with their skill sets and experience. The FAST program is perfect for teaching students how to present their skills and expertise to employers in ways that meet their requirements.
