You know that feeling you get when you’re on YouTube and you’re just… overwhelmed? Because there’s so much you could watch? And although you know — like, you know — you Couldn’t Possibly Watch Everything™, you try anyway? And then consequently wonder why you feel attacked by information? Mhm, I get that too.
This is a classic case of what I like to call, “YouTube Scatterbrain Syndrome,” or YTSBS. (We all have it to some degree. It’s a ~s p e c t r u m~.) Don’tworryDon’tworry. The cure is easy as pie.
All you gotta do is use YouTube with a little more ✨intention✨. Okay, maybe a lot more considering the method I’m about to suggest is also kinda wack and tbh annoying. But in a good way. Anyway.

Stop streaming. Start downloading.
So basically, the idea here is that instead of streaming the videos you want to watch, you download them first and then watch them offline.
It sounds counterintuitive, I know. Like, dud, why download when you can lit’’’rally just stream it????
Well, I’m glad you asked.
I present to you: 👼reasons👼
- It forces you to choose what you actually want to watch.
- It makes you consider: is this video really worth my time? (to both download and consume)
- It focuses your attention on one. video. at. a. time.
- It ensures you don’t watch more than you intended/downloaded; in other words, it prevents you from watching infinite content.
TLDR; stop streaming, start downloading. That’s it — that’s my message.
P.S. I only thought of and started doing this last night so this is not yet a tried-and-true method. I just had to share the idea, as I’m semi-obsessed with helping others use the internet more intentionally.
